Clinical Spotlight: Alexandre Veillette
1. Tell us who you are.
I am a passionate, active person who truly enjoys helping individuals to push their limits and achieve their potential. I enjoy challenges that are the fuel for my self-growth and daily excitement.
2. How has your journey in healthcare led you to where you are today?
I occupied many positions in the healthcare system: resource worker, case manager, clinical coordinator, manager of Recovery services and Aire ouverte, but recently decided to go back to clinical work in the early intervention program for psychoses (PEPP) for the fun of the work and the interesting diversity that it brings through daily human connections while helping our clientele (group work, intervention through sports, individual therapy, etc.).
3. What inspired you to pursue a career in social work?
I always had a strong inclination to help and advocate for people in need and wanted to be a voice and a vector to work toward social justice. Social work became my calling to meet this mission.
4. What is one item on your bucket list that you have yet to accomplish?
I would like to complete an Ironman.
5. How do you build personal connections with your patients?
I have a very friendly and easygoing approach while I connect with clients so that they feel quickly comfortable. I enjoy using sports in more informal settings to break the ice with clients and create therapeutic alliance. What better in life than shooting some hoops while discussing emotions and the complexities of life?! 😉
6. Running, swimming, or biking?
I enjoy these 3 activities and they are all necessary to complete the next item on my bucket list, but I particularly enjoy swimming in fresh water during the summer!
