The Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health at the Alliance Santé Mentale Québec Day
The Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health proudly participated in the Alliance Santé Mentale Québec Day, an event that bringss together researchers, healthcare professionals, patient partners, and organizations committed to improving mental health care in Quebec.
This gathering highlighted several initiatives in mental health research, particularly around patient partnership, youth mental health, psychosis, and the use of speech as a clinical research tool.
Lived experience at the heart of mental health research
Our Lived Experience Coordinator, Tosh Watson, accompanied by Kiauna Gow, a member of the CEYMH Youth Advisory Council, participated in a cross-training session on patient partnership in mental health research.
During this activity, Kiauna shared her experience since joining the Youth Council and explained how her involvement allows her to give back to the community. Her testimony highlighted the importance of integrating the perspectives of young people and individuals with lived experience into research projects and mental health systems.
“It was great to learn about what is happening in the field of patient-partnership within mental health systems and explore the different ways lived experience is included in research.”
Tosh Watson, Lived Experience Coordinator
Innovative mental health and speech research projects
The day also featured presentations from several members of our research team.
Alban Voppel, PhD, gave a presentation on the use of speech as a predictor of relapse in psychosis in Québec. His presentation emphasized the importance of better understanding vocal markers associated with psychotic disorders in order to support the development of innovative approaches for early detection in mental health interventions.
Roozbeh Sattari also presented work related to the Quebec Speech Bank, a research initiative aimed at developing innovative tools to analyze mental health markers through voice and language.
Marie-Ange Barthel contributed to the event through a scientific poster presentation on the Quebec Speech Bank
Through these presentations and exchanges, the day highlighted the importance of building bridges between scientific research, technological innovation, and lived experience in order to advance youth mental health research in Quebec.
