Clinical Spotlight: Schnell Garçon

1. Tell us who you are.

I am a mother of two, a wife, a daughter, a sister, a friend and a nurse manager whose heart lies in supporting family and youth mental health.

2. What brought you to this field?

Understanding the meaning of “Mind over Matter” is what brought me to youth mental health. When I understood that mental strength, willpower, and determination could overcome physical obstacles and limitations, I made it my career goal to help vulnerable youth grasp this essential life principle.

3. What motivates you most in your work?

My teams motivate me daily. They all foster a collaborative environment where everyone’s input is valued and creativity is encouraged. With my teams, every challenge feels like a shared opportunity for growth.

4. What are your tips for maintaining good work-life balance?

My top 3 tips to maintain a healthy work-life balance would be:
    1. Set clear boundaries at work by learning to say no to avoid overcommitting.
    2. “Make time during work time” by using timeboxing in your work schedule instead of an endless to do list.
    3. Prioritize daily self-care, by beginning and ending your day with something for yourself even if it’s just 10 minutes, just do it for you.

5. Top three favourite pizza toppings?

My top 3 toppings are cheese, pesto and a mix of vegetables, especially mushrooms, spinach and onions.
